I am not much into playing games on my tablet or smart phone. I do dabble with "Words With Friends" but my friends get bored and text me they don't want to play anymore. (outdated or old school already I guess) I always kind of found it as a link to distant friends you do not get to see very
often as you could say hello to them while you play with the built-in text feature and so on. (Do I sound like Andy Rooney here a bit?) Then along comes Candy Crush Saga. I avoided this game for some time since it came out last year. Then I observed a few of my friends playing it as with any game, you get these little teaser notices on Facebook that so and so is at this level or whatever. I finally caved in a month ago and decided to try Candy Crush Saga. Candy Crush Saga is probably one of the most addictive and profitable internet games on the market. Research I found by App Data makes this the number one game on the market today. Nearly 45 million people are playing this game each month. Sadly, I have now fallen into those numbers. This game is King's highest revenue generated game ever. King states that over 600 million people the game each day. The 45 million figure I quoted comes just from the app version. Candy Crush got it's start on Facebook last year so you add that with the app version and all you can say is "Wow!" This game has 385 levels with more reported to come. For anyone who has played this game, it is very tempting to cough up a buck here and there to try to finish a level you think you are so close to finishing. True nobody is forcing you to do so. For mobile users, especially kids, clicking on the "bill to" is easy and the next thing you know your nice little cell phone bill can jump very easy as it bills to your carrier's account. Annalists state that King's Candy Crush game could easily go to over 600 million dollars with daily revenues at over $600,000.00 (Think Gaming ) King has already announced they plan on going public with the game or considering selling it. While the game is technically "free" the revenue it is bringing in pretty much tells the story. They state over 70% of the players never purchase anything and make the 385 available levels. I am presently in the 50's levels and holding my own. So why do I dislike this game? OK, I am somewhat hooked on it. I don't like that. I even caught myself by a pop up from someone who sent me a life and I was about to play it when I should have been working. (I turned my phone off). Now since I am older and wiser (ya think?) if it is hard for me to resist this game and I am barely getting into it, can you imagine a young person or gamer who "Just has to beat this little sucker?" Oh what's a dollar here or a dollar there or maybe I will just drop a few bucks more to "color" the candy. Can you say $200.00 phone bill? The other item I find I don't like is there is no way to really stay in touch with your friends to play with them and say hello other than send them a life or reminder from the app that your friend needs a life. I don't like that either. King has a good thing going. Young and old seem to have dived into crushing candy. King has found a way to make thousands of dollars while still having a free game download out there. That is tough to do in this short attention span world we live in where games come and go in a heartbeat. So if you have strong will power and can resist those little pop ups that ask you "Want to buy 5 more lives for just 99¢?" you can crush candy to your heart's content. Stay tuned for our continuing "Saga" into crushing candy. Comments are closed.
