Using Email and social media together for marketing

2/19/2012

One huge fact overlooked by many businesses is that  they use email and many use social media for marketing.  But how many combine both to acheive even bigger results?  You see, using both email and social media as ONE marketing tool, you then are reaching where your vertical or audience not only works, but plays as well.  In our business as marketing consultants, we call this term cross marketing or x-marketing.  The trick to you of course is to make them "talk" to each other by coming up with a great plan that works.

Why email and social media together?  Simple.  This is where we are in today's world. While some may say email is becoming "old school", the fact remains there are over 3 billion  email accounts in this world of ours as of 2011.  One out of every 9 people on this planet now have a Facebook Account.  Last year, over 200 million people tweeted.  This does not include texts.  OMG!!  Now you see the where I am coming from.  You really need an effective email and social media connection in your marketing.  Here are some tips.
  • On  your Facebook fan page, use the "Like" icon to go get your visitors to sign up for your email newsletter or email special offers you only have available via email.  You can use Twitter the same way.  I again need to emphasise. Have a business Facebook site or fan page and a business Twitter site. Do not mix personal with business.  Not good!
  • Always use linkable icons on your email signatures to your Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, or Linkedin account.  You can also link your website.  However, cross marketing with incentives to use these links on your email for special promotions even make it more worthwhile other than just everyday signature purposes.  Example. If you have a special event, promote it on your Facebook site and include a special icon link in your email communication.
Remember That cross marketing will increase your chances of getting your message out to the demographic, vertical, or audience that you are trying to reach. In today's fast paced social world we live in, you can not rely on one form of commuication nor can you depend on any one segment of our population using any one form of communication.  The more tools you use in any marketing campaign, the more sucess you will have with it.  Have quesitons? I always welcome your emails.
